Young Adult Author Calls for Creative Collaboration to Make Book's Playlist Real

SEATTLE - Nov. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- Chapter 1 - HELLO MISTER GRIMM by The Fallen Angels
"Hello, I've got some news for you.
It's not all good, but it's all true."

You’re reading a book. A song pops into your head. It’s perfect! The words on the page turn into a movie in your mind, and you think to yourself, “if they ever put this story on the screen, this song has got to be on the soundtrack.”

That’s what happened as Author Royce Buckingham wrote his debut YA novel, The Terminals, an action-packed thriller about a group of terminally ill college kids who decide to live their last year of life performing dangerous missions instead of waiting to die in an adjustable bed.

“I am a really visual guy,” says Buckingham, “so when I write it, I see it. And hear it. With The Terminals, songs kept popping into my head, so I made a playlist of songs that felt right for the story. That led to the creation of a playlist for my protagonist, Cam.” As a result, each chapter title in The Terminals includes a fictitious song and band name and some of the song’s lyrics. Buckingham would love to have those songs become real and is inviting fans to get creative.

Here’s how it works:

1) Pick a song title from the story.
2) Write a cover tune.
3) Post it on YouTube.
4) Send the link to Buckingham via the Contact page on his website, www.roycebuckingham.com.
5) If approved, it'll be linked to his website with the following guidelines.
     - Must be original work.
     - YouTube post must include: "Inspired by Royce Buckingham's YA          thriller, The Terminals."
     - Band names, titles & lyrics in The Terminals are copyrighted          & belong to Royce Buckingham.
     - The tune you create (the music, not the words) belongs to you.
     - Offensive material may not be approved.

“I’m looking forward to hearing what people come up with,” says Buckingham. You can check out Royce’s playlist of real songs on his website by clicking on the tab “Royce’s Playlist”. For Cam’s playlist, read the book or find the list on his site by clicking the “Cam’s Playlist” tab.

ABOUT THE BOOK

When 19 year old Cam Cody is diagnosed with a terminal illness, he expects to spend the rest of his life in a hospital bed. Then one night, a mysterious man offers Cam the chance to join a covert unit of young “terminals” who spend the last year of their lives executing dangerous missions to make the world a better place. With nothing to lose, Cam is in.

Cam and his extreme spy team begin pulling off clandestine operations. But as his teammates fall around him, he starts to receive cryptic messages from a haggard survivor of last year’s class hiding in the forest, who reveals that the program isn’t what it claims to be…

Royce sold his first novel, Demonkeeper, to Penguin, Putnam and his screenplay for Demonkeeper to 20th Century Fox in 2006. He also worked for Xbox writing a fantasy video game storyline.

Since Demonkeeper debuted, Royce has made reading lists, garnered good reviews, and hit the bestseller list in Germany, where Demonkeeper (Damliche Damonen) sold over 100,000 copies for Random House, Penhaligon. Royce then expanded Demonkeeper into a trilogy.

The result is the Mapper: The Map of the World (Die Karte Der Welt) series, the first of which spent months on the German bestseller list and reached #11. Mapper II: The Will of the King (Der Wille Des Konigs) was released earlier this fall.

Royce lives in Bellingham, WA with his wife and two boys, where he has also worked as a Prosecuting Attorney for over two decades.
