Rhys Darby Star of HBO’s “Flight of the Conchords” Heads to Comix at Fox Foxwoods November 20

MASHANTUCKET, Conn. - Nov. 11, 2014 - PRLog -- Comix At Foxwoods will host “Flight of the Conchords” star Rhys Darby for a hilarious three-night, four-performance stand-up event, which kicks off on Tursday, Nov. 20 at 8:00 p.m.

An ex-soldier in the New Zealand Army and a veteran of fifteen years as a standup comedian, Darby made his feature film debut in “Yes Man.” He went on to feature as one of the DJ’s in “The Boat that Rocked.” He has since completed two lead roles in romantic comedies, “Coming and Going” opposite Sasha Alexander (NCIS) and “Lovebirds” opposite Golden Globe winner Sally Hawkins.

Darby is never far from his standup roots. His standup has been described as a sensational blend of sound effects, characterizations and askew observations. His career has taken him from his homeland of New Zealand, to the U.K. and beyond. He has performed his unique brand of humour in places as far flung as Iceland to the Falkland Islands, and in festivals from the “Edinburgh Fringe Festival” to Montreal’s “Just for Laughs.”

Rhys has three standup DVD’s, “Imagine That!”  Filmed in Los Angeles in 2008, and “It’s Rhys Darby Night!” Filmed in Auckland in 2010 and “This Way to Spaceship” filmed in 2012.  All are available on iTunes.

Darby released his debut novel “This Way to Spaceship, A loosely autobiographical end of world companion” in 2012.  It was number 1 in the charts for 7 weeks.  He then toured the live show version throughout NZ, the UK and to the Edinburgh Fringe, culminating in filming the DVD at the CBS Arena in Christchurch.

Since then Darby has written and starred in his 8-part mockumentary series for TVNZ, “Short Poppies,” which aired in early 2014. Darby is currently developing a number of exciting projects in both the US and NZ.
