World Bicycle Relief Announces the Start of Annual Year-End Campaign for Donations

Donations collected during the campaign will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $1 million

CHICAGO - Nov. 11, 2014 - PRLog -- World Bicycle Relief announced today the start of its year-end campaign for donations, its annual appeal for funds that will provide life-changing transportation to people where the need is the greatest, notably in rural Africa. Donations received now through December 31, 2014, will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $1 million, with the potential of delivering thousands of bikes to worthy recipients when this fundraising goal is met. The 2014 campaign, The Power of Bicycles, highlights how the Buffalo Bicycle can dramatically change lives and follows Tamara, a student in Zambia, who received a bicycle in 2014. With a Buffalo Bicycle, Tamara has been able to attend class more regularly and continue to work towards her goal of becoming a teacher. Donations received during the campaign will mobilize thousands of students, health care workers and entrepreneurs who will be able to stay in school, care for more patients and build their businesses and profits.

Since its inception in 2005, World Bicycle Relief has delivered over 200,000 bicycles to people living in developing countries, focused mainly on rural Africa where access to reliable, affordable transportation is very limited. The Buffalo Bicycle is a specially designed, high quality, rugged bicycle that is assembled locally in four plants across Africa. Traveling by bicycle is four times faster than walking; bike recipients save precious time by riding a bicycle and are able to accomplish life-changing activities with their increased efficiency. For recipients living in rural Africa, a bicycle can provide access to an education, health care and to markets. The power of mobility created by a single Buffalo Bike not only dramatically affects the life of the bicycle recipient, but it also has is a positive impact on the lives of five people in the recipient's community.

F.K. Day, Co-Founder of World Bicycle Relief:

“For Tamara there is power in riding to school each way rather than walking; power in getting to class on time; power in arriving home before sunset with time to study. With a single bicycle, Tamara has the power to achieve her dream.”

Year-end gifts to World Bicycle Relief will mobilize thousands of students, health care workers and entrepreneurs to turn their aspirations into achievements.
