The Mustang was first released on April 17, 1964 as a 1965 model year car and was an immediate success. Ford’s original sales forecasts counted on selling 100,000 Mustangs in the first year, but the Mustang was so well received that 100,000 Mustangs were sold in the first three months! At the end of the first year, ford had sold 418,000 Mustangs, more than four times the 100,000 they initially hoped to sell during that same time.
