Safeway Announces Co-Sponsorship Of UCI Level Cycling Team

SAN FRANCISCO - Nov. 18, 2014 - PRLog -- Pleasanton, CA based Safeway, Inc. is proud to be the newest sponsor of the 2015 UCI Airgas – Safeway Cycling Team. The grocery retailer will share title sponsorship of the team with Airgas. The Airgas – Safeway Cycling Team is comprised of 16 riders and will compete in a full calendar year of national and international events.

“2014 was our first year as a UCI team and we were able to compete in over 20 states throughout the US and in South Africa. In 2015 we will concentrate on a number of high level events and are very grateful to add Safeway as co-sponsor,” said Team Principal Chris Johnson.

With over 1,300 locations, Safeway Inc. is one of the largest food and drug retailers in the United States.

“Healthy eating and living an active lifestyle are core to the Safeway brand,” said Safeway president of marketing Mike Minasi. “Those values are clearly important to the Airgas – Safeway Cycling Team as well so this sponsorship was a natural fit.”

Team members are equally as excited about the news.

“When I heard Safeway was going to be our co-sponsor next season, I think I yelled out loud,” said the current USA Cycling Collegiate National Champion Griffin Easter. “I have been shopping at Safeway as long as I can remember and can’t wait to visit in my team kit. This is Awesome!”

The season will kick off for the team with a training camp in California.
