The Craco Society, a non-profit organization seeking to preserve the culture, traditions, and history of Craco, a southern Italian hill town located in the Province of Matera and the region of Basilicata, has added Stephen S. LaRocca, Esq. to its Board of Directors. Stephen S. La Rocca, an attorney and Senior partner at the New York law firm of Stephen La Rocca, PLLC also serves as the president of the San Rocco Society of Potenza. He has made it his mission to renew the active participation of the Italian American community and all of the San Rocco devotees in the 125 year old tradition of holding an annual feast day celebration in Manhattan, NY. It is the oldest such event in New York and the second oldest in the US. He is also an active participant in similar events held by similar organizations making him a well-known and respected advocate for preserving Italian American traditions. His reputation and knowledge of Italian American history in Lower New York has led to his participation in educational panels and conferences. He is the subject of documentaries by the Queens College John D. Calandra Institute. Joseph D. Rinaldi, president of The Craco Society says of LaRocca’s appointment, “Stephen brings great strength to our Board both professionally and emotionally at a time that is important to our organization. His energetic fervor, experience, and knowledge will help direct us as we grow from a small cultural society to a purpose driven organization that makes a difference at a time when traditions, cultural identity and historic preservation seem threatened by the demands of our everyday lives. We welcome his participation and wise input.” The Craco Society is a non-profit organization with a mission to preserve the culture, traditions, and history of Craco Italy in North America. Craco is now a ghost town and is included in the Watch List of the World Monuments Fund. Abandoned due to natural disasters, Craco is a tourist attraction and a popular filming location.
