Follow on Google News | Miracle on 34th Street at the Pearl Theater!Rediscover the magic of believing that wishes can come true and miracles still happen at Pearland Theatre Guild’s Miracle on 34th Street. The show opens December 5 and runs through December 21, 2014
Based upon the Twentieth Century Fox Motion Picture, this play tells the classic tale of Kris Kringle, a charming elderly gentleman who stumbles into a job as the department store Santa Claus at Macy’s in New York City. Kris unleashes waves of good will with Macy’s customers and the commercial world of New York City when he ignores instructions to steer parents to surplus goods that Macy’s is trying to unload, and instead refers them to other stores to find exactly what their children have wished for. Seen as deluded and dangerous by Macy’s vocational counselor, Kris ends up in a court competency hearing to prove to the world that he is in fact Santa Claus. Especially at stake is the belief of one little girl, Susan Walker, that dreams really do come true if you will open your heart and believe. This outstanding work is directed by theatre veteran, Jonathan Gonzalez and features a large cast that is a mixture of seasoned actors and newcomers along with some teens and children. The film has been ranked ninth by the American Film Institute on a list of America’s most inspiring films and because of its Christmas theme has become a perennial Holiday favorite. In 1947 it won the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Edmund Gwenn), Best Writing (Original Story) and Best Writing (Screenplay) Adapted by Mountain Community Theater from the novel by Valentine Davies.
