Vail Closes Out 2014 with Concerts and a Torchlight Parade

Dec. 2, 2014 - PRLog -- In the mountains of Colorado, there is always a white Christmas to look forward to. The holiday season brings a variety of festive events for the whole family to enjoy. At the Lighting of Breckenridge, Santa Claus will greet guests from his horse-drawn carriage. The town will be illuminated by decorated trees while patrons fill the streets. Breckenridge hosts a Race of the Santas on Saturday, December 6^th where visitors will see hundreds in costume race down Main Street. A new addition this year is the Reindeer Run, a race especially for younger ones. The annual race benefits “Adopt an Angel”, a program developed by the Silverthorne Police Department to benefit less fortunate families during the holiday season.

Vail is also a top winter destination and offers a diversity of seasonal happenings. With lights, music, and holiday decorations, families can enjoy their winter break in a classic festive atmosphere.  The month of December will include free concerts, world-class ice skating shows with champion skaters, Kids Zone activities and New Year’s Eve celebrations. Vail Snow Daze takes place December 12-14 and 19-21 with live entertainment including the Wallflowers, Lukas Nelson, and Rusted Root. The annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will bring the community together in Slifer Square with the Mayor of Vail. This yearly highlight will be on December 21^st immediately followed by the Lantern Walk where illuminated paper lanterns are taken through Vail Village. The Torchlight Parade is a Vail tradition that will take place on New Year’s Eve. Skiers will form a glowing train as they ski down Golden Peak where visitors can observe at the base of the peak. After the parade, a grand fireworks finale will light up the sky. These Vail traditions are free events open to the public.
