Stories in the Garden: The Wonder of Trees & Leaves Friday, January 9 - 10 to 11:30 am Mounts - The Pavilion FREE Speaker: Stacey Burford, Youth Services Librarian Celebrate the 11th year of Stories in the Garden by bringing young ones (ages 2-6) to these FREE nature-themed programs co-sponsored by the Palm Beach Library System. They’ll love the interactive stories, songs and learning activities in the Garden. Programs are held rain or shine in the sheltered Pavilion. No reservations required, except for parties of six or more. A craft activity to culminate each day will be reserved for the first 30 registrants. New: In the Design Studio Sunday, January 11 - 10:30 am to 12:30 pm Mounts Auditorium FREE for Garden Steward Membership Level & Above; $15 Regular Admission Speaker: Keith Williams, ASLA Award-winning landscape architect A partner at the world-renowned landscape architectural firm Nievera Williams, Keith Williams knows what it takes to create lush, beautiful landscapes up and down South Florida. He will walk participants through the design process and show how he and his team create lavish surroundings in the harsh climate of Florida. Member Exclusive: A window into working with Keith Williams, landscape architect and lead designer, at 9:30 am. New: Mounts Botanical Garden Book Discussion Series Tuesday, January 13 - 7 to 8:30 pm Clayton Hutcheson Complex - Conference Room FREE In partnership with the Palm Beach County Library System, this new series will provide an opportunity for book and garden enthusiasts to meet together to experience exciting fiction and non-fiction titles related to all aspects of gardening and horticulture. The featured premiere novel for this month will be Cross Creek by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. State of the Garden Address Wednesday, January 21 - 6:30 to 8:30 pm Clayton Hutcheson Complex - Exhibit Hall B FREE Speaker: Allen Sistrunk, Mounts Garden Director A full presentation of the Mounts Botanical Garden’s Master Plan as well as exciting future developments such as the new Tropical Wetland Garden and the Nature Connects: Art with LEGO Bricks blockbuster exhibit. The Art of Macro Photography: Saturday & Sunday, January 24-25 - 9 am to Noon Mounts Auditorium $5 Photograph some of nature’s winged wonders with Alan Lee, who led the Butterfly Rainforest exhibit project for the Florida Museum of Natural History. His passion for capturing nature will inspire you to look at butterflies with an aesthetic eye. In this two-part series, Mr. Lee will address the art of macro photography and basic concepts to help you turn pictures into photographs conveying memorable impressions. A critiquing session will also address Photoshop image editing, while we closely examine photographs taken in the Garden. Appropriate for beginning amateurs to professional photographers. SLR camera preferred. Mounts 2015 Photography Contest Sunday, January 25 $5 Entry Fee Registration begins for this ninth annual photography contest. People are invited to enter the finest photographs that they’ve taken at Mounts Botanical Garden. Entry categories include plant life, animal life, people in the Garden, scenic/landscapes, and nature close-ups. + Official rules & entry forms are available at Mounts.org or pick up the contest brochure at the Mounts office or Garden Shop during normal business hours + Come to Mounts on March 1, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., for the judges’ positive critique of the contest entries and the announcement of the winners. + Entry Fee: $5/Photograph; + Entries Accepted: January 25-February 25, 2015. @ 4:00 p.m. Note: To register for any of the events and workshops at The Mounts Botanical Garden of Palm Beach County, please call 561.233.1757.
