Humanity Rising Launches In Chicago

CHICAGO - Jan. 13, 2015 - PRLog -- CHICAGO (January, 2014) – Humanity Rising, a nonprofit organization that brings together socially conscious organizations and individuals to inspire, empower and reward students for making a positive difference in their communities through service, launches in Chicago. To kick off the New Year, Humanity Rising debuts its service scholarship program with a select group of Chicago area high schools, and plans to expand to additional schools within the year.

Humanity Rising helps students find their service passion, and awards college scholarships for outstanding service.  Students can become eligible for Humanity Rising Service Scholarships by volunteering at organizations that interest them, or by creating and participating in student-led service projects.

The organization completed its pilot program this past fall, culminating in an assembly at George Westinghouse College Preparatory in East Garfield Park where nine students were awarded Humanity Rising Scholarships for their work in creating the Culture of Kindness Club, to address the issue of bullying.  “Our students and teachers have worked hard in collaboration with Humanity Rising to create the Culture of Kindness Club at George Westinghouse College Prep. As a result of their hard work, we have witnessed an inspirational level of student advocacy for kindness and an increased level of awareness around the harm that bullying causes.” said GWCP Principal Patrick McGill.  “This is exactly the type of character we want all our students to develop here at GWCP, one of kindness, love, and advocacy for making the lives of those around us better.”

To start the New Year, Humanity Rising will launch its first Chicagoland Service Challenge, which will feature three initial causes:  Anti-Bullying, Hunger, and Homelessness.  High school students are encouraged to complete service projects within these broad focus areas to gain eligibility for a scholarship to offset their college tuition.

“I believe that service is at the core of humanity”, said Humanity Rising Founder Debbie Ferruzzi.  “We are excited to bring communities together to inspire students to create a lifelong passion for service.”

Humanity Rising Service Challenges are powered by Youtopia (http://www.youtopia.com), an innovative technology platform that enables students to earn digital badges as they complete various levels of service activity.  The platform also makes it easy for school faculty to track and verify student service.
