C&S Wholesale Grocers To Mark MLK Day With Service

KEENE, N.H. - Jan. 23, 2015 - PRLog -- Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s vision of people of diverse backgrounds interacting on personal levels, on or around the 2015 MLK Day of Service, teams of C&S associates in nearly 20 locations will be devoting time to young children enrolled in Head Start Schools or other schools in low-income neighborhoods.  Associates will volunteer in the classrooms to read books and do coloring projects on themes of inclusiveness and diversity.

“Our colleagues will be connecting with at least 500 children and sparking their imaginations,” said Amanda Whalen, Senior Vice President, Corporate Strategy and Innovation.  She also noted, “This is the seventh consecutive year that C&S has participated in MLK Day as volunteers in our communities.”

To make the day special and to further encourage reading, each child will receive new, age appropriate books of their own.  The books will be provided by C&S through First Book, a national nonprofit organization that provides access to new books for children in need.

Vinvci, Executive Director of the National Head Start Association, said “The National Head Start Association is pleased to partner with C&S Wholesale Grocers to enable teams of volunteers to read to Head Start children and provide them with books.
