Does New Docu-Series for Playboy-TV Discriminate Against Older Women?

LOS ANGELES - Feb. 3, 2015 - PRLog -- “How appalling,” said Cougar dating expert Lucia Demasi about a new show titled ‘The Cougar Club.’

The docu-series, which is expected to air on Playboy-TV, is currently looking for cast members, but has limited its search to women between the ages of 29 and 42 according to its casting call.

“A Cougar is a woman over 40.  Casting women in their 20s and 30s for a show called ‘The Cougar Club’ is a huge slap in the face to all real Cougars. It discriminates against women over 40 and continues to perpetrate the myth that older women aren’t attractive or sexually desirable and therefore can’t be on TV.”

Demasi operates the Cougar Club Facebook page and website with an active following of nearly 300,000 people on Facebook alone. She also has an active social media following on Instagram and Twitter.

“Every day we post photographs of beautiful women from around the world in their late 30s, 40s and 50s. Our followers can’t get enough, proving that older women are incredible no matter what their age,” Demasi said.

Ms. Demasi, who KTLA-TV in Los Angeles has dubbed ‘Queen of the Cougar Jungle,’ believes the new docu-series is using the popularity of the ‘Cougar’ name and lifestyle to attract attention, yet is unwilling to use real Cougars on the show.

“It would be similar to casting a show titled ‘The American Club’ but featuring only Canadians.  TNT’s ‘Cougar Town’ did the same thing.  They used the word ‘Cougar’ in the title when the show first aired but once the show gained an audience, it no longer wanted to be identified with the Cougar lifestyle. The show’s direction changed and the show considered changing its name.  Everyone wants the benefits of the publicity associated with the term ‘Cougar’, yet no one wants to be all in,” Demasi said.

Metal Flowers Media, the production company behind ‘The Cougar Club’ contacted Demasi about either auditioning or helping spread the word about the show.  Lucia refused to promote the show to her social media audience of more than 340,000 when she saw the casting cut-off age was 42.

Lucia has asked Metal Flowers Media to either change the name of the show or include real ‘Cougars’ – women well into their 40s and 50s.
