WHAT: The February 10th concert is the culminating experience for students who have been participating in the Philharmonic’s annual classroom music education program, which integrates music into the academic classroom through curriculum guides and live presentations. The program culminates in this full-orchestra performance which, for many students, is their first time in a concert hall.Designed for elementary school students in grades 3-6, the Westchester Philharmonic’s 2015 education program features Mozart’s Overture to The Magic Flute as a springboard to musical learning. Working from both the podium and the piano, conductor Ted Sperling will introduce the instrument families of strings, winds, brass, and percussion; musical elements of tempo and dynamics, melody and harmony; and key aspects of compositional form. Study guides as well as optional visits from professional teaching artists help teachers weave the music and themes into classroom lessons. Excerpts will also be performed from Grieg’s Piano Concerto and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2.

The Westchester Philharmonic’s education program provides children with an opportunity to experience a professional symphony orchestra in a real concert hall.
