WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Feb. 8, 2015 - PRLog -- WINNIPEG – [February 6, 2015] Stash Snow Company is excited to announce they will start operating the first backcountry sled-ski operation in Iceland in April 2015. The company, founded in 2014 by 21-year-old Johann Joseph Straumfjord Sigurdson IV, will operate in April and May on the Trollasagi (Troll) Peninsula in Northern Iceland.

Alpine skiing has always been a family focus and backcountry skiing is the family’s passion. To share their passion with guests Stash Snow Company has selected the Trollasagi Peninsula as it is the best backcountry ski area on the Arctic Circle. The varied terrain and snow combined with the mild weather and long spring days make this an exceptional backcountry experience.

While Johann was born in Canada his heart is rooted in Iceland. Johann’s family has lived in the area for almost a millennium and rubbed shoulders with the likes of Eric the Red and Eric’s son Leif the Lucky. In fact, Johann’s grandfather lived on the same farm as Eric before Eric left Iceland over 10 centuries ago to settle Greenland. Leif, also not satisfied with staying on the farm, went beyond Greenland to discover and try to settle North America.

When Johann was younger his grandfather told and re-told stories of adventures in Iceland. Many of them featured Trolls from this very area. Legend has it that the last Troll in all of Iceland met its end in the mountains of this area and that is why today it is known as the Troll Peninsula. The Troll area features fabulous snow and terrain. Using sleds (also known as snowmobiles) guests can access areas that were only available by helicopter at great expense.

Stash Snow Company combines “steep and deep” with relaxation, comfort, and experience only found in a 1,000 year old country. Guests will enjoy the sights, scenery, sounds and smells of the vistas on every run. Where else can you spot whales as you carve your 4,000+ foot descent to the ocean shore? Many of these areas have not been skied before and guests will be able to choose terrain for any level of skier. The experience is priced within the reach of families, fathers and sons/daughters or serious skiers who want to access the “stash”. Guests will ski in the same areas as the heli-ski operations and have almost as much flexibility to choose what lines to ski, the angle of the descent, and the technical level of the run.

Stash Snow Company provides the most economical backcountry vertical available in Iceland while delivering the food, culture and nightlife this European destination offers.
Stash’s Icelandic Lodge is strategically located to provide both access to a wide variety of terrain and a wide range of Icelandic culture.  Guests will discover their inner Viking while enjoying fresh food and good times with skiers from all over the world. There is a maximum of 6 guests per week to ensure each person has an experience tailored to them.
