| WebyGeeks.com List The SEO Myths that Should Die in 2014SEO has changed for the better. The concept has changed from optimizing for the web to optimizing for people. It has gotten a lot interesting and it has gotten more interesting.
By: Webygeeks SEO is easy If SEO is easy then anyone can go on top of Google search engine results without a problem. However, as time passes by, the algorithm becomes more complex with plenty of layers of abstraction added to it. These make the technical signals harder and harder to read. In fact, Google PageRank has made fewer and fewer updates for the past few years, which leads people to speculate that PageRank will be gone for good. Moreover, the algorithm updates made it harder and harder for SEO to rank a website. SEO is dead SEO is not dead. Maybe some idea or the original meaning of SEO is dead, but not the entire SEO itself. It has become harder and harder to optimize the results by means of shady tactics, but the truth is, SEO today is actually starting to sound good and relevant. The tactics to beat Google through spam and other shady tactics no longer works and is now focused on creating high quality, user-friendly blogs and websites which is what it is really all about. Guest Blogging is dead When Matt Cutts, the head of the webspam team announced that Guest Blogging is considered as spam, a lot has steered away from guest posting. The only reason Matt Cutts announced to cut off any guest posting strategies is that people have been using it as the only source to gain links. Therefore, hundreds of guest posts appear on almost every blog each week. This kind of tactic is spammy and should therefore be avoided. A better approach to guest posting is to think of quality more than quantity. Build relationships, not links, and use it to create an image for your brand. No Follow Links Don't Count A no-follow links mean that your link from that site won't be followed by a GoogleBot or any other search engine bots. However, that doesn't mean that they aren't helpful. Unlike a do-follow link, Google bots don't check for no-follow links; however it is more complicated than that. Google checks for the naturalness based on a do-follow to no-follow ratio. No-follow links can still bring traffic, which is what really is more important than a Google bot crawling through pages. No-follow links bring referral traffic. Black Hat SEO Don't Work A lot of black hat SEO tactics will get you higher in search engine rankings - but only for a short term. Black Hat SEO tactics like putting the list of keywords in color the same as the background of the page, or spamming keywords can get you ranked in a couple of days, but when Google finds out about it, you are likely to get penalized. The worse thing that could happen is your web page will be banned from the search engine. Negative SEO Does Not Work Negative SEO like incorrect redirects, de-indexing a site, or duplicate content are some of the negative SEO tactics webmasters are using against their competitors. Malicious parties can try to leave spam anchor texts to your site, or use low quality links to point to your site. These attacks shouldn't do any irreversible damage, but you still need to keep a close eye on your inbound and outbound links. Paying for Google AdWords Mean Higher SEO Ranking This should already be dead by now, but still people believed that if you pay for Google AdWords, then you'll rank higher in organic search. Google treats every site as equal even if you haven't paid for Google AdWords or you have. Always aim for Rank #1 It's nice to rank on top, but actual rankings fluctuate on a daily basis. The higher ranking doesn't mean that it has more conversions compared to the ones below. This also depends on the phrase the users are looking for. Oftentimes websites on page 2 has better click through rates on page 1, so if your site is on page 2, be careful trying to aim for rank #1. The ranking will vary from what the user searches. AuthorRank is a Ranking Signal When Google announced Authorship Markup on June 2011, SEOs believed that Google would track authors who are more authoritative and would reward them with higher rankings. However, there has been very little evidence happening to that as of yet. Matt Cutts verified that they use an AuthorRank like a concept as a part of their in-dept article feature. SEO has changed for the better. The concept has changed from optimizing for the web to optimizing for people. It has gotten a lot interesting and it has gotten more interesting.
