TAMPA, Fla. - March 2, 2015 - PRLog -- CONCEPT Professional Training is hosting Summer Training Institute (http://www.concept-ce.com/summer-training-institute-2015) at John Jay College of Criminal Justice June 1-5, 2015. Attendees will participate in in-person workshops with internationally renowned experts (http://www.concept-ce.com/our-instructors) in the forensic mental health field. A variety of 1-, 2-, and 5-day workshops are being presented, allowing for participants to create a personalized training schedule to meet their professional interests. Foundations of Violence Risk Assessment and Management workshop is presented by Drs. Stephen Hart, Kevin Douglas, and Laura Guy. This 5-day workshop is intended for professionals who want to obtain skills in risk assessment and management, including those working in criminal justice, security, health care, social service, education, and human resources settings. This workshop will assess and understand the administration of HCR-20V3, Risk for Sexual Violence Protocol (RSVP), Spousal Assault Risk Assessment Guide (SARA) and the Brief Spousal Assault Form for the Evaluation of Risk (B-SAFER) and Guidelines for Stalking Assessment and Management (SAM).

Assessing Risk for Violence using HCR-20-V3 is presented by Drs. Stephen Hart, Kevin Douglas, and Laura Guy. This 2-day course is part of the Foundations of Violence workshop but focused on general violence risk with the HCR-20V3. This workshop is geared toward professionals who want to obtain skills in risk assessment and management, including those working in criminal justice, security, health care, social service, education, and human resources settings. Attendees will understand the Principles of violence risk assessment and management and how to assess and manage risk for general violence.

Assessing Psychopathy using the Hare Scales: PCL-R and PCL:SV is a 2-day workshop presented by Dr. Stephen Hart. Psychopathic personality disorder is an important risk factor for violence. Additionally, it has relevance for treatment and risk management. Participants will begin by learning principles of administration and interpretation, then build related skills by reviewing and discussing case studies. Next, participants will discuss the most effective ways to communicate their findings, both in writing and orally. Throughout, participants will have the opportunity to discuss critical issues related to assessment of PPD using the PCL-R and PCL:SV.

Assessment of Malingering is a 2-day workshop presented by Dr. Barry Rosenfeld. This workshop reviews the tests and techniques currently available for assessing malingering of cognitive impairment and psychiatric disturbance. This workshop is relevant for professionals who want to obtain or strengthen skills in forensic evaluation, including those involved in civil and criminal forensic mental health assessment, forensic inpatient and community settings, and those who work at the intersection of clinical psychology and law.

Best Practices in the Evaluation of Juvenile Competence to Stand Trial is a 2-day workshop presented by Dr. Ivan Kruh. This workshop is intended for professionals who want to obtain or strengthen skills in forensic evaluation, including those involved in civil and criminal forensic mental health assessment, forensic inpatient and community settings. This workshop will focus on conducting juvenile adjudicative competence evaluations that meet a best practices standard.

Juvenile Offender Issues and the Assessment of Juvenile Waiver to Adult Court is a 2-day workshop presented by Dr. Randall Salekin. Day one will focus on assessing adolescent offenders: the juvenile justice system, developmental maturity, personality development and the RSTI. Day two will focus on Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder, and Callous Traits: DSM-5 Defining Features, Etiology, and Mental Models Treatment. This workshop is intended for professionals who want to obtain or strengthen skills in juvenile court including those involved in civil and criminal forensic mental health assessment and community settings, and those who work at the intersection of clinical psychology and law.

ODD, CD & Callous Traits DSM-5 is a 1-day stand-alone workshop presented by Dr. Randall Salekin and the second day of the Juvenile Offender Issues workshop. The workshop will focus on Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder, and Callous Traits: DSM-5 Defining Features, Etiology, and Mental Models Treatment; with greater detail on the disruptive behavior disorders providing information that helps psychologists better understand the conditions as well as intervene with them.

Ethics in Forensic Psychological Practice is a 1-day workshop presented by Dr. Randy Otto. Using a case study approach, this interactive workshop reviews ethical challenges/issues commonly encountered by forensic psychologists. It is NOT a workshop on ethics in general psychology practice. Attendees are encouraged to anchor their judgments in various sources of professional authority (e.g., ethical principles, practice guidelines).

Report writing for Forensic Evaluations is a 1-day workshop presented by Dr. Randy Otto. Upon completion of the workshop attendees will be able to list primary purposes of reports and affidavits that summarize their forensic evaluations, describe the different functions of reports and affidavits; identify common report errors and more.

Effective Expert Testimony for Forensic Evaluation is a 1-day workshop presented by Dr. Randy Otto. This workshop is devoted to expert testimony mental health professionals provide in depositions, trials, and administrative hearings. As such, this workshop should be of interest to all mental health professionals who testify in legal proceedings regardless of their specialty area.
