Improving customer insights is key driver of Big Data projects in Asia Pacific: BigInsights Survey

Improving customer insights is key driver of Big Data projects in Asia Pacific as established by new research by Australian Research and Advisory firm BigInsights

SYDNEY - March 10, 2015 - PRLog -- Improving insights about customer and improved decision making were the top reasons why organisations were investing in Big Data projects in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.

These were some of the key findings of the ‘The BigInsights 2014/15 BigData Study’ conducted by BigInsights, the Australian Big Data research and advisory firm, in conjunction with the CIO magazine.

The study’s focus was on the effects and growth of the volume and variety of data, and how organisations effectively managed it to derive value, so also to understand the implications and impact of the Big Data on enterprise in the APAC region.

Some key themes that it explored included:

·        Growth – How fast data is growing in the region.

·        Use Cases – What are the main business purposes for Big Data adoption

·        Technology Awareness – Knowledge of the different technologies and platforms available in the market.

For the survey, BigInsights had invited leading Information Technology (IT) and business professionals from the Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia regions from organisations engaged  or investigating a Big Data project. Those interviewed were either CIOs, CTOs, IT Directors/Managers or Business Analysts.

“Organisations in the APAC region are no longer immune to the data growth dilemma. Yet, growth in data volume is not unmanageable. Storage systems are evolving and becoming much more cost effective,” said Shayum Rahim, Research Director, BigInsights.

The survey established that increasing competition would force companies to look to data to retain that competitive edge, while the appetite for data driven decision making will see data continue to grow at exponential rates.

The shortage of skills would also see increasing opportunities for consulting firms to bring expertise to projects. This would also lead to the creation of a lucrative career path for those entering data science and related disciplines.

“Early adopters of Big Data solutions have shown preference for open sourced innovations from Hadoop/NoSQL ecosystem as basis for creating the Next Generation Data Platform. Existing mega vendors such as HP, Dell, SAP are falling behind in gaining mindshare and marketshare,” said company Founder and Principal Raj Dalal.

The key findings of this critical research will be released in a webinar (http://biginsights.co/bigdatastudy/) on March 13, 2015. Register at http://biginsights.co/bigdatastudy/
