GEORGETOWN, Mass. - March 17, 2015 - PRLog -- In 1976, after playing in a series of local bands, Samuel Stephen Forbert left Meridian, Mississippi, and headed for New York City with his Martin guitar and a growing list of his own songs. Forbert began by busking in Grand Central Station and playing gigs at Gerdes Folk City and Kenny's Castaways.

Danny Fields, of The Ramones and Andy Warhol Factory fame, signed him to a contract after watching him perform at CBGB's — a seminal spot for the burgeoning punk and New Wave scene that showcased the likes of Patti Smith, Talking Heads, Blondie, Joan Jett and others.

In 1978, Alive on Arrival was released to much critical acclaim. The 35-plus years since that time have taken Forbert to Japan, Sweden, Ireland — certainly most every major city in the continental United States — and seen the release of 15 studio albums and a dozen more that have included live performances and outtakes. Along the way, Steve garnered a Top 10 single ("Romeo's Tune") and a Grammy nomination, and his songs have appeared in several movies (featuring a cameo appearance by him in one film). Forbert's tunes have been covered by Rosanne Cash, Keith Urban, Del Amitri, Marty Stuart and many others.

Even before he was signed to a major label, people took notice. John Rockwell of the New York Times wrote: "What makes [Forbert] remarkable is that he's good already, when he's still growing. And at his frequent best, he's already a star."  As one critic recently wrote, "Steve Forbert is a hardcore troubadour who, artistically speaking, continues to fight the good fight by releasing one excellent album after another and working his ass off show after show to earn every single fan's loyalty."

Forbert's memoir reflects on these performances, these songs — his early days blurring the boundary between Greenwich Village Folk tradition and Bowery New Wave — and several of the experiences throughout his career. Beyond the Chandelier includes contributions from many who have been there during this journey — including Danny Fields, Garry Tallent and others.

Steve Forbert: Beyond the Chandelier is scheduled to be released in Fall 2015 and will be available in hardcover, paperback and eBook formats.
