AUSTIN, Texas - March 19, 2015 - PRLog -- projekt202 and Iasa Austin sponsor Game of Drones, a SXSW event to benefit The Salvation Army

As the sun set over downtown Austin, Texas, and the projekt202 rooftop deck, drone enthusiasts raised their glasses and engaged in a Game of Drones in a pre-SXSW bash unlike any other. Philip Wheat, CTO of Drone Labs, LLC. was on hand to discuss the state of drone technology and all proceeds benefitted The Salvation Army Austin’s Women’s and Children’s Shelters.   More than 100 guests danced on the rooftop under the stars, and droned in the projekt202 offices, raising $1500.

Iasa Austin and projekt202 will be presenting their donation to Colonel Gonzalez and Donna McClendon, the Corporate Relations, Volunteer and Special Events Coordinator at the Salvation Army of Austin's offices on March 18th.  “We are honored that projekt202 and Iasa have chosen to support The Salvation Army through the Game of Drones event,” said Lt. Colonel Henry Gonzalez, The Salvation Army Commander of the Austin Area. “If having a great event is good, then having a great event and also supporting women, men and children who are homeless in our community is doing the most good.”

During the event, guests were enlightened by Phil Wheat, CTO of Drone Labs LLC, a company dedicated to securing people and property from unwanted drone intrusions. To quote Drone Labs, "Most drone pilots are law abiding citizens and Drone Labs™ is an active supporter of the drone community; however we also realize, in the wrong hands, drones can be dangerous. To that end we created our flagship product: Drone Detector ™."

Drones flew through the projekt202 office, sponsor for the event, as attendees sampled the “Drone” cocktail—a signature drink created especially for the evening. “As a company that’s focused on building better technology experiences for people, we’re always interested in how emerging technologies, like drones, are going to fit into the market landscape right now and in the future,” said Erik Cottrell, General Manager of projekt202. “This event was a unique opportunity to explore a remarkable technology shift while raising money for a great cause.”

Guests enjoyed the competition provided by the professional high flyers of the Central Texas Drone Users Group, who set up a course and raced through the projekt202 offices.  One of the highlights of the evening was a live feed from Maui, Hawaii, with our friends Justin Edwards of DroneAbove (www.droneabove.com) and Ian Forbes of DroneMaui (www.dronemaui.com).  Although the weather (and some software) didn't cooperate for the live feed of flights over the Pacific, Justin and Ian were able to see and be seen, and answer the questions of the audience.   The crowd got a little rowdy during the raffle drawing--three micro-drones were awarded, and Josh Smith of VisibleSEO won the grand prize—a large drone of his own.

Stephanie Shindler, Executive Director of the Austin Chapter of Iasa Global, acted as emcee for the evening.  “Iasa Global and Iasa Austin love bringing the members of the architect community together to expand their network of friends and colleagues—learning about the hot topic of 2015, drones and drone security is an added bonus,” said Ms. Shindler.  “We are looking forward to bigger and more surprises for next year’s Game of Drones 2016.”
