Follow on Google News | “Karnataka will reach the top very soon” – says R.V.Deshpande at ITB Berlin 2015The minister said that Tourism has a huge potential in India but needs to be explored more than has been done in the past. Tourism contributes hardly 6.5 per cent to the Indian GDP compared to smaller countries like Cambodia which contributes 15-16 percent. The Govt. of India is giving a lot of thrust to tourism. Karnataka on its part is leaving no stone unturned to tap international and domestic tourism. There is a lot of attention being given to the security of tourists, particularly the international tourists. Cleanliness and infrastructure are also major concerns. New policies are being set in tourism which includes transfer easy and a better public private partnership to work towards the development of tourism. The corporate sector will look after and maintain destinations. The destinations will be served with better guides knowing more foreign languages. Since the past one and a half year the push has been largely on the infrastructure in providing better facilities like toilets on drinking water. About $50 billion have been spent in developing the coastline of Karnataka. Karnataka has ranked fourth in domestic arrivals and 9th in international arrival in the country. The state is striving to reach the top. In September 2015 PATA will hold a seminar in Bangalore and that will be a huge boost for Karnataka tourism where more than 70 countries will participate. Tourism is a vast industry that generates huge revenue and jobs boosting the economy of the state. He added that the Great Golden Chariot Train will provide enthralling experience for travellers who wish to navigate the Southern India. Follow the detailed interview of Mr R.V.
