For 150 years, the Detroit Public Library has provided information service to generations of Detroit residents. From the renowned Main Library landmark to the 21 neighborhood branch locations all throughout the city; the Library has been an integral part of Detroit’s history. “The Detroit Public Library stands on a rich tradition of serving all the citizens of this community,” said Jo Anne G. Mondowney, Executive Director, Detroit Public Library. “For the past 150 years DPL has served as the community’s living room, a place for education, exploration, and inspiration. As the world has become more technology reliant, the library has embraced a new role as provider of technology hubs in the city’s neighborhoods.” In 2015, the Library is set to celebrate three additional organization milestones for the 100th anniversary of the Burton Historical Collection, the 75th anniversary of our Bookmobile service in the community and the 50th anniversary of our Junior Great books literacy program. “We look forward to this year-long celebration of recognizing the value of the Library in our community and invite you to participate in the many activities we have planned, says Mondowney.” Join the Library in celebrating these milestones in the city’s history beginning with the Kick-Off Celebration and culminating on March 19, 2016 with a special “Gala Fundraiser” event.
