Columbia Design League Presents Runaway Runway Recycled Fashion ShowDesign competition spotlights designers who turn trash into fashion.
Runaway Runway attendees are treated to a lively fashion show hosted by Tyron McFarlan, a Columbia native and Ringmaster of the 135th Edition of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. In-show entertainment will be provided by designers and models, as well as house music spun by DJ GLDFNGR. The event’s Presenting Sponsors are SCE&G and Jaguar Land Rover Columbia, which will have vehicles on display that evening. Before and during the show, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy signature Casamigos Tequila and American Harvest Vodka cocktails created especially for Runaway Runway by restaurateur, chef and cocktail artist Kristian Niemi. The runway, artfully developed by stage and lighting designer Jim Hunter, is an in-the-round design offering plenty of sight lines from open, floor-level seating and the museum’s second floor balcony. Out in Boyd Plaza guests can nosh on food from vendors including the Wurst Wagon. As always, after the winner is named, guests are encouraged to hang out and bust a move at the events after party. Tickets are available for $25 each in advance ($40 the day of the show) and ticket sales will be capped at 500 seats. Light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available during the show. Purchase tickets online here. “Runaway Runway is how many people first learn about the work of the Columbia Design League,” says Amy Shumaker, president of the Columbia Design League. “These creative, hardworking designers share our belief that design can impact the world in meaningful ways. Like turning trash into something that’s so beautiful it takes your breath away.” The Columbia Design League was founded in 1997 and became an affiliate group of the Columbia Museum of Art in 2000.
