Durham, NC Novelist To Visit Hiroshima With 9th Grade Class

DURHAM, N.C. - April 15, 2015 - PRLog -- Bob Hengal, Alumni Director at Canadian Academy, recently invited Durham novelist Alice Wisler to join his class on a field trip to Hiroshima, Japan, where they will meet with an atomic bomb survivor. "I just finished your book Under the Silk Hibiscus," Hengal writes, "and thought you would make a great first Alumni in Residence at our school."

Because of Wisler's extensive research of the Japanese-American internment, she has been asked to speak with both the 9th and 10th grade English and social studies classes. "They would love to have you meet with their classes to talk about what it is like being a professional author and your writing process. In addition, I would like to incorporate your research into a unit on the Showa Period."

The tentative dates for Wisler’s visit to Japan are January 26 through February 3, 2016.
