"We wish we could tell you Katy Perry will be visiting, and we hope she will one day," said Greg Lewis owner of one of the Pittsboro Roadhouse, one of the most active restaurant / music halls in the Raleigh area. "But for now, we're excited to be able to display the three guitars that Katy Perry's band actually played at the Super Bowl 49 Half-Time Show and to have teen talent, Makani McKenzie as Katy Perry, performing some of her songs." The idea for the event began when a Triangle area guitar collector bid on and won the NFL Auction of Katy Perry's Super Bowl Half-Time Show guitars - three US-made Fender guitars. "When I was asked if we wanted to display these guitars," said Lewis. "Of course, I said yes! And the idea of a pay-it-forward event began taking shape." "We explored an event that would honor Katy Perry's donation of the auction proceeds to the non-profit that empowers teens to end dating violence, Break the Cycle. So we decided on a fundraiser for FVRC," said Anora McGaha of ClearSight Creative, who works closely with the Roadhouse. "After consulting with a half-a-dozen community members, and FVRC, we planned a program that invites participation and fun while increasing awareness of safety in dating." "We welcome dress-up with wigs and colorful costumes for a fashion walk, singing participation with Karaoke," McGaha continued. "We are thrilled that both Trio Luna and Makani McKenzie accepted our invitation to perform, and that Raleigh Event DJ's "DJ B-Rad" agreed to DJ and host Karaoke. Having The Phoenix Theatre Company's founding director Jessica Nunn emcee the event pulled it all together." "We are excited to raise awareness about healthy teen relationships in such a fun way," Marianna Spence of FVRC said. "No one regardless of age deserves to be controlled or abused. Kathy Perry's powerful songs speak to that, and we are thrilled to have the chance to take a look at her guitars that rocked the Super Bowl with positive messages about confidence and strength." "The Roadhouse has always supported a healthy, safe Chatham County in all of its partnerships with nonprofits," Raffle tickets will be sold for chances to win items donated by supporters and local businesses. A small silent auction will feature some special items, and there will be prizes for participants.
