By: Spicy Food Productions In honor of the 20th Anniversary, Spicy Food Productions has announced a decrease in the Fiery Food Challenge entry fees. Entries for 2016 will be priced at $85 each for 1-3 entries and $75 each for 4 or more entries. Greg Bagarozy, president of Spicy Food Productions said “The entry fee reduction is in keeping with our continuing efforts to attract entries world-wide and honor companies large and small.” The Fiery Food Challenge is an international competition. All entrants must be certified professional manufacturers, following all regulations designated for consumer mass production by a certified kitchen, and/or co-packer. The Challenge pits products against each other in more than 80 categories and is implemented through a series of food tastings by professional culinary judges. The food tastings and scoring are “blind” - a number is assigned to each entry and judges, as well as scorers, do not know the company origin of the products. Products are scored on a number of areas including appearance, aroma, texture, flavor, use of heat, overall impression and category compliance. Industry icon, John “CaJohn” Hard oversees the three days of judging. CaJohns Fiery Foods has won over 500 product awards in National, International and Regional competitions. In addition to the prestigious 1st place Golden Chile, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons are awarded. All winners also receive 1,000 commemorative stickers to place on their honored products. Though the years, the use of these award stickers has increased product sales and consumer recognition of the Fiery Food Challenge. The 2016 honors will be announced at a Fiery Food Challenge Awards Banquet Friday evening, January 29. The awards are presented in conjunction with ZestFest, the 14th annual spicy food festival, January 29-31, at the Irving Convention Center in Las Colinas, TX. The product that is awarded the Best Overall award in the Fiery Food Challenge will be featured in a weekend cooking demonstration by a Celebrity Chef on the Cooking Stage at ZestFest.
