McCormack Talk of the Town PR 717-659-1411 yvonne@talkofthetownpr.com www.talkofthetownpr.com Human Development Services of Westchester’ Port Chester, NY May 12, 2015 – Neighborhood Preservation Company (http://hdsw.org/ Considering that 60 percent of the village’s property structures were built in 1959 or earlier, and the housing type ratio between owner-occupied to renter-occupied properties is 47 to 53%, it is important for our community to have a discussion about the environment that they live in, how to prevent unintentional injuries, detect household hazards such as lead, carbon monoxide, rodents, mold and moisture, and work with community stakeholders to understand property code violations and maintenance in order to improve the quality of life of our community. Summit attendees will participate in a series of workshops and demonstrations throughout the day to increase their awareness and understanding of a healthy and safe home and community environment. About Neighborhood Preservation Company Human Development Services of Westchester (HDSW) has been the designated Neighborhood Preservation Company for the Village of Port Chester since 1978 under New York State Legislation. The agency is responsible for administering a wide range of housing and community activities to preserve and promote housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income persons. In 2006, HDSW became a HUD-Approved Housing Counseling Agency. Housing counseling provides individuals and families with the knowledge they need to obtain, sustain, and improve their housing. We belong to a strong national network of 2,500 HUD-approved housing counseling agencies and housing counselors. HDSW is also an adopter of the National Industry Standards for Home ownership Education and Counseling. The program’s bilingual and multicultural staff provides direct assistance to tenants, landlords, first time home buyers, and homeowners with a variety of housing counseling programs and services.
