FLUSHING, N.Y. - May 13, 2015 - PRLog -- (May, 2015) Flushing, NY- The month of May happens to be the peak season of allergies. People that normally suffer from allergies or asthma have noticeably physical changes during this month due to the amount of pollen and drastic seasonal changes that occur. Environmental changes such as weather and construction, especially in New York, are no different when it comes to developing any sort of asthma or allergies.

According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, allergies are caused by an overreaction to substances called allergens and are known to be diseases of the immune system. They are grouped together Allergies are caused by allergens that can get into our body in several ways depending on the time of year or symptoms that appear on the body such as indoor and outdoor allergies, food allergies, latex allergies, insect allergies, skin allergies and eye allergies. Some subsequences that cause allergies include inhaling foreign substances through the nose and lungs, ingested by mouth, injected, or absorbed through the skin.

In addition, asthma is a sub sect of allergies. Asthma is a disease of the lungs in which the airways become blocked or narrowed causing breathing difficulty.  It affects approximately 25.9 million Americans and more than 50 million Americans suffer from all types of allergies.

When you think of asthma you think of someone who coughs and wheezes all day. Severe asthma attacks a person leading them to need immediate emergency treatment to restore natural breathing.  Asthma doesn’t discriminate with race, age, or sex. In addition, people with asthma have inflamed airways which cause two secondary symptoms one of which contain the bronchi, the airway branches leading to the lungs, and the other, lungs.

When the bronchi are inflamed it becomes overly reactive and more sensitive to all kinds of asthma triggers such as allergens, cold and dry air, smoke and viruses. When the lungs become inflamed, people have difficulty moving air in and out, this is called airflow obstruction.

Allergies and asthma are the most overlooked diseases and are the leading cause to hospital emergency visits. One in five Americans suffer from allergies.
