Peter Tobin’s story continues in the second book of the series, Sevengate: The Harvest, recounting life in Australia’s Outback over the past century.

In the sequel, the author gives a nod to historical fact, but inserts enough fiction to make the Outback come alive.

This time, Tobin’s legacy as a drover, shearer, horse-breaker, soldier, and pastoralist spans the years 1910 to 1974. Tobin’s son, Harry Perrottet, born in born 1910, is the offspring of a short, disastrous marriage between the drover and an English lady of refinement.

The book covers an important part of Australia’s past and the intricacies that make up the diverse nation. It also testifies to a drover’s hard life and survival in a tough climate. As the fiction comes into play, there are dramatic sacrifices, fatal misunderstandings, and even murder.

About the Author: Thursday’s Child was the first novel by Clive Thomas, a retired grazier (rancher) who lives in a seacoast village just north of Sydney, Australia. He spent his childhood years amongst the last of the Australian Bushmen. Apart from following the boyhood and pre-World War II career of the fictional Harry Perrottet (1910 to 1946), his second novel, Sevengate, continues up to the 1970s.
