Toyota Explores Integrating SmartDeviceLink Technology into New VehiclesThis new seamless infotainment technology could be coming soon to Indiana Toyota models.
SDL is an open source architecture, not unlike the popular Android smartphone operating system, designed to let automakers tailor its functionality to their needs while creating a seamless blend of smartphone technology and automobile. In addition to expected features like voice recognition and music playback, SDL will also be able to facilitate smartphone applications like parking, traffic, and other data from the Internet and present it in a convenient and usable way to drivers. The biggest advantage of going with an open source design like SDL is that it allows for application developers to design an app just once and trust it to work over a wide variety of infotainment systems, saving on development time and helping present a broader range of apps to drivers. Shigeki Terashi, Senior Managing Officer for Toyota Motor Corporation, discussed the collaboration with Ford, saying, “We continue to investigate new technologies that both enhance and safeguard the driving experience of Toyota owners. The in-car app market is quickly evolving. Developing robust, flexible, safe and user-friendly connected services is a priority for us, and one that we believe is shared by Ford, Livio and other contributors to SDL technology.” There's no word yet on when this technology will make its way to new Toyota models, but it should just be a matter of time before drivers can find SDL on Prius, RAV4, and Camry models at Lake Shore Toyota. To learn more about the new SmartDeviceLink technology and how it can impact the future of Toyota vehicles, readers have been encouraged to contact the experts at Lake Shore Toyota. In addition to their new Toyota lineup, they also feature a diverse selection of pre-owned models and on-site auto service. Their Burns Harbor dealership serves Portage, Chesterton, and Valparaiso and has convenient hours six days a week. Photos: https://www.prlog.org/ https://www.prlog.org/ https://www.prlog.org/ End
