A Perfect Pairing: New Tile Floor + Flexible Crack Suppressing Underlayment

NORFOLK, Neb. - June 23, 2015 - PRLog -- Engineered specifically for installation under ceramic and porcelain tile and most natural stone, MP Global Products’ UltraLayer^® underlayment, at a just right 0.10” thickness, is firm enough to support the overlying floor yet flexible enough to form around sub-floor roughness so minor imperfections are smoothed before the finish floor is laid. When used with ceramic or porcelain UltraLayer inhibits concrete subfloor cracks from telegraphing through and is warranted for a period of 15 years to suppress the transfer of lateral cracking of up to ¼” from concrete subfloors to the tile or grout above.

Made from 100% recycled fiber content, the VOC-free, odorless and hypoallergenic UltraLayer features randomly air-laid filaments that create a capillary effect to cushion the floor, dampening ambient sound in the room in which it is installed and minimizing impact and airborne sound from traveling to the room below - important attributes in condos, multi-level homes or multi-family housing. It achieves excellent IIC sound ratings and qualifies for two TCNA Robinson Test ratings. When installed with residential ceramic tile, mortar, and grout, and in accordance with TCNA installation standards, UltraLayer was rated for light commercial use in office space, reception areas, kitchens and bathrooms. When installed with commercial porcelain tile, epoxy mortar, and epoxy grout, it is rated for extra heavy and high impact use in flood plants, dairies, breweries, and kitchens.

Sporting excellent insulating qualities, UltraLayer adds an R-value of 0.42 to the floor assembly that will keep floors warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.

UltraLayer is certified by Scientific Certifications Systems to contain 100% post-industrial/pre-consumer fibers and also carries SCS Indoor Advantage Gold certification, which requires the highest level of indoor performance for clean air. It is LEED^™ compliant, enabling it to contribute to the overall percentage of pre-consumer content for LEED certification in the category of Materials and Resources (MR Credit 4.1-4.2).

Plus, in a remodel, UltraLayer can be installed directly to old VCT or non-cushioned sheet vinyl as long as that floor covering is still adhered tightly to a level, even and structurally sound solid subfloor, saving time and precluding the chance of exposing harmful asbestos elements during tear-out of the old flooring.
