By: Dr. Alexander & Company Recipients were honored at the 61st Annual President’s Installation & Awards Ceremony on June 27, 2015 at the World Market Center – World View on Sixteen & Sky View Terrace (495 S. Grand Central Pkwy). The President’s Committee reviewed all nominations and selected finalists and winners. The committee includes Dr. Michael Edwards, CCMS’ 2014-15 president; Dr. George Alexander, past president; Dr. Keith Brill, immediate past president and Dr. Andrew Eisen, president-elect. 2015 Winged Heart Award Recipients Nursing Category Winner: Tammy Wert, RN is an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) trauma nurse atUniversity Medical Center (UMC). An ICU trauma nurse for 20 years, she takes time out of her busy schedule to mentor other fellow nurses. A compassionate and selfless caregiver, Wert purchased televisions and radios at her own expense for all 14 ICU rooms at UMC in order to help patients retain some autonomy while recovering from traumatic injuries. Other 2015 nominees were Linda Rittenburg, RNand director of specialty care and imaging services at Southwest Medical Associates (SMA) and Maxine Spatt, a registered nurse working on a medical/surgical floor with heart monitoring at Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center. Non-profit Category Winner: Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation offers support and services for families of children diagnosed with cancer from birth to 21 years of age. The foundation assists families while their children afflicted with cancer pass through the different stages of the disease, treatment and, in certain cases, death. Other 2015 nominees included Miracle Flights for Kids thatprovides financial assistance for medical flights that help seriously ill children receive life-saving medical care from specialists throughout the United States, and Foundation for Positively Kids, a community-based nonprofit designed to serve children ranging in age from birth to 18 who suffer from cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, cancer, heart and lung disease, and any other number of conditions that threaten their ability to survive without proper medical care. “Nurses and nonprofits are extremely dedicated to their profession, but these nominees have successfully raised the bar in the Clark County medical community,” said Dr. Alexander, who established the Winged Heart Award and served as CCMS’ past president. “Past recipients have expressed how this award has excited their entire staff and how their peers have become more dedicated to working with patients and in other areas at work. On behalf of the Clark County Medical Society, I would like to congratulate this year’s winners and nominees.” Rising Star Award Recipients Lindsey Murphy is a third-year medical student at the University of Nevada School of Medicine (UNSOM). She has studied internationally in London, Argentina, and Australia. Upon her return to the U.S. Murphy worked as a clinical research assistant at the Cleveland Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas and has earned top honors such as Clerkship Honors in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, and Psychiatry, and Outstanding First Year Medical Student from UNSOM. Robert Wills is a third-year osteopathic medical student at Touro University Nevada College of Medicine. He has served on the executive board of the Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents and as the president of TUNCOM’s Osteopathic Medicine Student Government Association.
