Free activities during the morning open house include stick-horse barrel racing, tractor races, barnyard visits, "panning for gold," Dress like a Cowboy, vaulting demonstrations, face painting, and butter-making in the Dairy Barn. Horses4Heroes is the nation's premier non-profit equestrian support group for the military, veterans, First Responders and their families. Through its growing national network, the organization provides low-cost recreational and instructional activities for all ages and all riding levels and free health and wellness programs for veterans with PTS/MST/TBI, victims of domestic abuse and violence, at-risk youth, and foster children and teens. The organization opened its flagship facility, the Horses4Heroes Community Equestrian Center at Tule Springs, in March 2014. The National Day of the Cowboy non-profit organization works to contribute to the preservation of America’s cowboy and pioneer heritage, so that the history and culture which the National Day of the Cowboy bill honors, can be shared and perpetuated for the public good, through education, the arts, celebrations, gatherings, rodeos, and other community activities. The NDOC flag flies in 30 states and 6 countries and flew to the International Space station and back aboard the Discovery Space Shuttle.
