DENVER - July 21, 2015 - PRLog -- PEBC’s Boettcher Teacher Residency (BTR) is launching the Adaptive Leadership Master’s Degree, providing current teachers the opportunity to expand their instructional knowledge and skills. Teachers can earn this master’s degree while they continue to teach in the classroom, and it will be issued through Adams State University, founded in 1921 as a teacher’s college. The program is now seeking active classroom teachers and instructional coaches for its inaugural cohorts in the areas of Metro Denver, San Luis Valley (Alamosa) and southwestern Colorado (Durango). Interested, qualified candidates should apply online now, and classes will begin in mid-October 2015.

The Adaptive Leadership Master’s Degree program focuses on developing teacher leaders by providing them the opportunity to develop their instructional practices, cultivate coaching and mentoring abilities, and learn adaptive leadership skills to transform their schools. The program takes approximately 18 months to complete, and will incorporate both classroom and online learning.

“Since launching the Boettcher Teacher Residency in 2004 for new teachers, we’ve seen an incredible demand for a program that helps current teachers earn a master’s degree and enhance their instructional practices, coaching, and leadership skills,” said Dr. Belle Faust, executive director of the Boettcher Teacher Residency. “Fueled by this demand, we’ve partnered with Adams State to create a master’s degree to develop more teacher leaders for Colorado’s classrooms. We’re excited to launch the program this fall in three markets throughout the state.”

Since its establishment in 2004, the Boettcher Teacher Residency has prepared and retained a network of over 240 effective teachers who have been placed in school districts throughout Colorado. The program stresses the importance of hands-on, mentored learning and training for new and current teachers, and matches its training curriculum to the needs of today’s classrooms.

“The model of teacher preparation is evolving and expanding toward residency programs where learning and training is hands-on and can be applied immediately,” said Faust. “Programs like ours are nimble and pliable to the needs of teachers and schools. Many large, successful companies use this model to train their employees, and it’s equally as effective in the educational world.”
