About Habitat for Humanity Sarasota

There is a vast need for affordable housing in Sarasota. Families on our waiting list are extremely rent-burdened, paying more than 50% of their monthly income toward housing. They often have to make the decision of paying rent, keeping their utilities on, or buying food.

To qualify for home ownership, families must be willing to partner, verify a need, and be able to make a mortgage payment. They are vested in our program by volunteering a minimum of 300 hours, attending homeownership classes and providing a down payment. Each home is purchased at-cost, with a zero interest mortgage averaging $600 a month – including taxes and insurance.

Every Habitat home is constructed by dedicated, community volunteers. We operate two ReStores which sell donated furniture, appliances, cabinets, tools and clothing; ensuring that 100% of every charitable dollar funds an affordable home.
