By: Titan Sky Entertainment Already achieving cult status after showing for the medical marijuana community in and around Seattle this summer and receiving enthusiastic reviews from horror and sci-fi critics nationwide, Richard Cranor’s mind-bending thriller has its freshman screening for a festival audience at CGIFF. Cranor, a longtime Washington resident, penned, directed and plays a supporting role in the controversial film, which challenges traditional views of both marijuana and PTSD. Star Leaf is about three friends who search for a forest of extra-terrestrial marijuana hidden deep in the Olympic Mountains, and stars Russell Hodgkinson and Julian Gavilanes of Sy-Fy’s Z-Nation. The adventure begins when Tim (Tyler Trerise) introduces his girlfriend Martha (Shelby Truax) and his Afghanistan war buddy James (Gavilanes) to the legendary Star Leaf, anticipating an out-of-this- KVEW TV’s Jason Valentine calls Star Leaf, “a ‘trip’ worth searching for in theaters. An indy horror treat with some scares, laughs, and a little something to say.” And according to Northwest Leaf Editor and Publisher Wes Abney, “Star Leaf could become to this generation… what Cheech and Chong’s Up in Smoke was to the 70’s.” But HorrorSociety.com may have captured the enthusiasm of the target audience most succinctly: "Forget Evil Bong. Forget Pot Zombies.... Star Leaf is the one for you!" Shot entirely on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, the movie features actual “Star Leaf” marijuana plants developed by Ohana Farms to help in PTSD treatment. The movie and strain have received the support of Analytical 360, Washington’s first I-502-certified testing lab.
