Follow on Google News | Share Your Scars Offers Hope for Those Who Self InjureThe pioneering radio show releases its 64th episode, in which host Vicki Duffy explains how to break out of the victim mindset.
In the U.S. alone, more than 2 million self-injury cases are reported each year; because most cases are not reported, actual self-harm incidents are probably at least 10 million or more. Unfortunately, resources to help self-injurers break that destructive cycle are few and far between. New Jersey-based Launching Pad is one of few support groups and “Share Your Scars!” is the only radio show dedicated to demystifying and decreasing self-injury. An original COA Recovery Radio show, “Share Your Scars!” is hosted by Vicki Duffy, an advocate and public speaker who has spent over a decade breaking the silence of self-injury. “Share Your Scars!” airs weekly with new episodes that address every aspect of self-inflicted violence. The show hopes to break the silence of seilf-injury while educating the public and always, keeping it real! Recent episodes include "Victim No More!", in which Vicki explains how to break out of the victim mindset. “You may have been a victim in the past, but that doesn't mean that you have to remain a victim,” she says. “What happened last month, last year or years ago doesn't have to determine your destiny.” This episode explains how to overcome severe obstacles, and triumph over an abusive past. Other recent episodes include “Going Blank”, which explores ways that people block out emotions, escape responsibility and shut down; “Got Relationships?” While “Share Your Scars!” offers great insight into the underpinnings of self-injury and other forms of self-destructive behavior, the wisdom in these episodes will be useful to anyone who wants to improve their life.
