Pontardawe Town AFC New Ground Development

Historical Milestone Achieved - after 15 years Pontardawe Town AFC have a ground they can call their own!

SWANSEA, Wales - Aug. 13, 2015 - PRLog -- Since the beginning of time, it seems, the question and challenge from everyone to Pontardawe Town AFC has been when are you going to improve the football facility at the Recreation Ground, located at the end of the Alloy Industrial Estate in Pontardawe. Despite its excellent surface we were unable to develop the Recreation Ground due to the venue being shared and used for cricket. For nearly 15 years the club has been in talks with Neath & Port Talbot Council regarding a dedicated football ground development, and finally on 30th July 2014 we were able to complete the lease for the new ground, situated at Parc Ynyderw in Pontardawe. As a result of all the hard work over a period of more than 15 years, planning permission was submitted and granted at the end of last year, which allowed work to commence earlier this year. We are now at the starting line, where our first league game will be played at Parc Ynysderw on Saturday 15th August 2015 - a massive historical milestone for Pontardawe Town AFC, a big asset to the local community, and a huge achievement for those that have worked so hard and tirelessly to get to this point in the Clubs development.

Pontardawe Town AFC supports junior football from uner 6 to under 16 boys and girls teams with a very successfull Ladies Team, as well as an Academy Level football structure. At senior level it has first team, reserves and under 19, and in total there are more than 28 teams across all age groups and levels within the Club. The Junior Section of the Club has recently achieved the prestigious FAW Trust Silver Accreditation award, which is given to Clubs that achieve high standards of coaching and child safeguarding levels of control. This means that all mini (under 6 to under 11) and junior (under 12 to under 16) age groups have a safe and healthy environment within which to enjoy playing and developing their football.

The creation of the new dedicated venue for Welsh League football at Parc Ynysderw at Pontardawe is a massive achievement by those that have worked so hard for many years. The new fantastic venue will not only support senior Welsh League football, meeting challenging FAW Welsh League ground criteria, it will also provide a future for our many aspireing young footballers. A huge credit must be given to those that had the original vision and the committment over many years to develop the Club to this point. It now has a venue that can support the on-going development and growth of the Club and a venue that the community can be very proud of.

The future looks bright at Pontardawe Town AFC!
