Houston Safari Club Launches Online Petition In Opposition Of Airline Transport Bans

By: Houston Safari Club

HOUSTON - Aug. 25, 2015 - PRLog -- Houston Safari Club (HSC) has launched an online petition to amass signatures representing direct opposition to the recent airline transportation ban on legally harvested animals. The decision to take a blanket approach to the transportation of these animals is an inappropriate response and incorrectly fails to distinguish between the trade and transportation of legally acquired wildlife specimens, and the illegal trade in wildlife specimens.

Hunting-related tourism is a primary source of funding for wildlife agencies and personnel, anti-poaching efforts, habitat preservation and species enrichment. Impairing the transport of legally harvested animals will cause a drastic reduction in consumer travel and thus a critical source of conservation support. In the end, transportation bans will directly affect the future of wildlife and economies on a local and global level. CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) is an international agreement between governments, already in place to oversee international trade in specimens of selected species and to apply certain controls to oversee the transportation of these species.

Three U.S. airlines have announced they will no longer allow hunters to transport legally harvested animals on flights. American Airlines, Delta and United refuse to transport certain legally harvested animals, specifically buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion or rhinoceros.

Please do your part to show opposition to this ban by signing the petition at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/oppose-the-airline-transport-ban.  The goal is to present the petition to the airlines, with 100,000 signatures.

HSC remains steadfast in its repudiation of all poaching and its contempt towards unethical behavior of any hunters worldwide.
