‘The Monsterjunkies’ – An Award-Winning Graphic Novel

The fact that the novel received critical acclaim from Kirkus Reviews and Readers’ Favorite shows it is more than a must-read: it is a must-have.

NEW YORK - Sept. 4, 2015 - PRLog -- ‘The Monsterjunkies: An American Family Odyssey’ is a graphic book adapted from the original YA novel by Erik Daniel Shein and Theresa A. Gates by Jay Fotos Studios. Recently, the novel has received a Readers’ Favorite award in the gold category.

This beautiful graphic book tells the story of Talon and Pandora Monsterjunkie, husband and wife cryptozoologists who turned their mansion in Foggy Point, Maine, into a sanctuary for rare and endangered creatures. Their children, Crow and Indigo, are very passionate about monsters as well, but they suffer a lot because all the other teenagers at school think they are freaks. While Indigo manages to make a friend, Winter, Crow is very unpopular. He prefers to spend time with the creatures, who are his best friends.

The biggest problem the Monsterjunkies have is Ruth, the lead bully in town, and Ruth’s father, who is powerful and rich enough to run the family out of town if he wants. What would happen to all the wonderful creatures at the mansion if people found out about them? They would probably experiment on them, and the Monsterjunkies can’t allow that. They have to stand their ground and fight for their rights. After all, just because they are different, it doesn’t mean they should leave town.

‘The Monsterjunkies: An American Family Odyssey’ has recently received a great review from Kirkus Reviews - https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/erik-daniel-sh.... Here is what the reviewer said about the graphic novel:

‘This graphic novel adaptation by Jay Fotos Studios is delightfully faithful, in spirit and dialogue, to the original material. The art presents wide-eyed, smiling characters who skew fairly close to those found in Archie comics. The color palette is mostly subdued greens and browns, except for bolder colors that help the creatures jump from the panels.’

The message the book sends is great for teenagers, but also for their parents: you always have to believe in who you are, and if you are bullied, you have to stand up for yourself without stooping to the bully’s level. The fact that the novel received critical acclaim from Kirkus Reviews and Readers’ Favorite shows it is more than a must-read: it is a must-have.
