TULSA, Okla. - Sept. 10, 2015 - PRLog -- Crematory Manufacturing & Service, Inc. (CMS) launched its Commit Scholarship Program in September 2014.

“One of our core values at CMS is Universal Education,” said Larry Stuart Jr., President. “As funeral service evolves, especially with respect to cremation, we wanted to create a new way to support funeral professionals to best serve the market. We believe providing better access to cremation-specific educational opportunities will help raise the standard for the entire profession and change the way people think about cremation.”

Commit was originally designed to last just one year, but due to the positive response and incredible impact, CMS has decided to continue the program for at least a second year. Awards can be used towards the registration fee of any approved cremation-related continuing education seminar, symposium, convention or training.

“In the coming 12 months, CMS will provide up to $10,000 in scholarships funds,” said Stuart. “The only requirement for a program to be eligible is that it was created with input from a crematory equipment manufacturer.”

Past recipients have attended programs hosted by ICCFA, CANA, American Funeral Director Magazine, the Saskatchewan Crematoria Council and more.

“[Receiving the Commit Scholarship] meant I could pursue my goal of becoming a Cremation Technician. It was pretty cool to approach my boss and ask him if I could attend…knowing it was covered. It allowed me to go. It put me in the position where it was easy for my boss to say yes,” said Tracy-Lynn Switzer, Funeral Director.

Interested working funeral professionals and current mortuary students can apply anytime. The application process is online and easy, requiring only a standard informational form and a few sentences on what the future of cremation means to you.

“We call Commit a ‘New Kind of Scholarship’ because it’s the only one of its kind in the profession that provides more than just basic education to both students and working professionals,” said Stuart. “This is for individuals who want to know more than just what is required, more than what is expected, and who want to elevate what it means to work in deathcare.”
