Hazon and Oshman Family JCC Present Free Farm-to-Table Food Fest: Eating for a Sustainable Future

With Celebrated Chef Charlie Ayers of Palo Alto's Calafia Restaurant
 
PALO ALTO, Calif. - Sept. 17, 2015 - PRLog -- Palo Alto, CA–September 16, 2015–Bay Area foodies will have the chance to participate incooking demonstrations, food tasting and tutorials at the Farm-to-Table Food Fest Sunday, October 18 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the Oshman Family JCC in Palo Alto. Participants will spend the afternoon learning, celebrating and doing hands-on projects at the intersection of food, sustainability and Jewish life. The day will wrap up with a talk and onstage demonstration by well-known local chef Charlie Ayers of Calafia restaurant.

Festival goers will learn about the benefits of local, sustainably grown, and produced food by:

·         Eating delicious food (sushi, popsicles, kefir, honey, cookies, olive oil, falafel) and beverages (tea, mead) made by local artisans

·         Participating in fun hands-on cooking workshops (Kosher cheese with Louella Hill (http://www.sfmilkmaid.com/) (aka. the SF Milk Maid), sustainable sushi workshop with L’Chaim Sushi (http://lchaimsushi.com/), mead tasting with the Oron Benary of San Francisco Mead Company (http://www.sfmead.com/), fruit pie contest with Reboot (http://www.rebooters.net/), challah braiding and decorating with Irving’s Premium Challah, Daniel Barash of Challah-it-Forward (http://www.challahitforward.com/) and the PJ Library)

·         Meeting top local chefs, food experts, caterers, (Calafia’s Charlie Ayers (http://www.momentmag.com/the-google-seder/), SF Milk Maid Louella Hill (http://www.sfmilkmaid.com/), Los Altos Beekeeper Kendal Sager (http://paloaltoonline.com/news/2015/06/25/honey-on-the-hands)) and community organizations and businesses (Slow Food South Bay, 4-H Clubs of Rolling Hills and Menlo Park, Common Ground Garden, UC Master Gardeners, Factory Farming Awareness Coalition, StartOrganic, Second Harvest Food Bank, San Mateo Beekeepers Association, Susty Kids, Inc.) who are working to create a healthier and more sustainable food system and environment for all.

The culminating will be a cooking demonstration, tasting and book signing with Calafia Café’s chef Charlie Ayers, author of Food 2.0: Secrets from the Chef Who Fed Google.
