BEFORE AND FURTHER: An installation by DABSMYLA with Modernica (October 17th - November 15th)

LOS ANGELES - Sept. 22, 2015 - PRLog -- For their most ambitious exhibition to date – artist duo DABSMYLA presents Before and Further, a 4,000 square foot installation takeover of a stand-alone 1930 built Spanish Revival workplace building, located on the Modernica factory property. DABSMYLA have fully transformed its interior and exterior with their newest paintings, sculptures, installations and exclusive furnishings from limited-edition fiberglass shell chairs and hand painted ceramics to custom-built lighting installations, all designed and created exclusively for their collaboration with Modernica utilizing the factory’s extensive technical capabilities. The already rich history of this building and Modernica create a fitting compliment for DABSMYLA’s spectacular experience. This long awaited solo show will be the follow up to their tremendous work in designing the logo and set of the 2015 MTV Movie Awards. This exhibition closes their already very busy year, which includes an enormous private showcase in New York City and having painted numerous murals worldwide.


Before and Further is inspired by the individual life experiences of DABSMYLA - experiences that ultimately resulted in bringing the two artists together and explores their mystical union and shared balance of love, creativity, friendship and sexuality. The significance of two becoming one is most essential to DABSMYLA, in their work and more importantly in their role as husband and wife. Their artistic singularity is evident though the distinguished back-and-forth process of painting they equally share. Before and Further recalls their unseen journey of experience, the shared creative energy they’ve embraced and their cosmic consciousness of togetherness. This installation exemplifies DABSMYLA’s adventures in modern living and artistic partnership with a bit of psychedelic experimentation.

Since moving from Australia to Los Angeles in 2009, DABSMYLA have been non-stop in pushing their creative boundaries in vivid and bold new directions. Inspired by Modernism and the contemporary artists of the post-war period, DABSMYLA incorporate many mid-century elements with their illustration and pictorial narratives. This exhibition further pushes their collaborative process, working with Modernica, a design collective that equally share a passion for the Modernist movement’s culture.

MODERNICA

Modernica is a company founded on the principles and the passion of the vibrant North American Modernism movement. This era is often said to have originated in Los Angeles with the Case Study Program in 1945. Modernica embraces this Modernist movement’s ethos. The ideals established in this period were the basis on which the quintessential California lifestyle was imagined and created.

Modernica occupies a factory located in Los Angeles with over 100 employees who proudly handcraft each piece of furniture one-by-one.
