St Johns Episcopal Hospital names Daniel DiNardo DO Chief of Palliative Medicine

NEW YORK - Sept. 24, 2015 - PRLog -- St. John’s Episcopal Hospital is pleased to welcome Dr. Daniel DiNardo as Chief of Palliative Medicine. A graduate of Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, he completed his Internship and Residency in Family Practice at St. John’s before going on to complete a Fellowship in Palliative Medicine at the Brooklyn VA Medical Center.  Dr. DiNardo is Board Certified in Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment.

As a Palliative Care specialist, Dr. DiNardo treats patients suffering from serious and chronic illnesses such as cancer, cardiac disease, kidney failure, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease, as well as end of life issues, with the goal of providing quality of life for patients and their families. Patients receiving Palliative Care are helped with alleviation of symptoms such as pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, nausea, loss of appetite, difficulty sleeping and depression. Palliative Care improves patients’ ability to tolerate medical treatments and helps patients understand their choices for treatment.

Dr. DiNardo sees Palliative Care as a team approach – a patients’ core team includes his/her doctor, nurse and social work palliative care specialist. Massage therapists, pharmacists, nutritionists, chaplains and others may also be part of the team. The team spends as much time as necessary with patients and their families, and acts as  a healthcare partner with patients’ other doctors. Dr. DiNardo looks forward to supporting community residents in need of Palliative Care through every step of the wellness process, helping patients build the strength necessary to participate in, and enjoy, daily life.
