Channel B Signs Deal with Echelon Studios for 15,000 Classic Movie and TV TitlesChannelB.com offers classic movie and television shows for free
By: Channel B Media Inc. ChannelB.com works much like Netflix – users can simply go online and start watching. However, ChannelB.com carries mostly old black and white films and B-movie cult hits like the Planet of the Apes series and the original 1958 version of The Blob. ChannelB.com recently purchased the licensing rights to 15,000 movies from a California studio. "Our general audience would be more the baby boomers, right now with the content we have,” said Bill Boutilier, the owner of ChannelB Media. “Because it's a lot of the older movies that our parents liked a lot. It reminds them of their childhood. That's a lot of people that are coming to the site. But over time as we add more TV shows and more unique content, the age group's really going to widen up at that point." The site comes at a time when more and more people are getting rid of their cable or satellite service. Viewers want to watch programs when they want to watch them, not when they're being aired. Boutilier said that eventually the company would like to operate more like Netflix, and license more expensive content. Some of the most popular movies on Netflix can cost as much as $200,000 per month in licensing fees. ChannelB.com makes their money through advertising – there is no subscription fee, but viewers can pay to remove ads. Channel B sees 15,000 movie views per day. End
