Munich Airport presents new hospitality and retail concept

Oct. 22, 2015 - PRLog -- In the new satellite facility, scheduled to open in April 2016, Munich Airport (FMG) and Lufthansa will offer passengers an entirely new shopping and dining experience. Forming the heart of this exciting world is the central marketplace, an open space flooded with natural light built around the apron tower. The retail and dining options will include a wide selection of iconic German and international brands, popular Bavarian retailers, and local bars and restaurants.

"Bavarian traditions and hospitality, Munich's unique lifestyle and the blending of nature with state-of-the-art technology – these were the guiding principles behind the architectural design of the dining and shopping area," says Rainer Beeck, the Senior Vice President of Commercial Activities at Munich Airport. This means that even transit passengers will get a sense of Bavarian culture. The space will include 16 retail stores, seven food and beverage locations and three Duty Free shops.

The new shopping and dining facilities will be run by the FMG subsidiaries Eurotrade and Allresto as well as external retailers and restaurant operators. An Allresto café will offer star chef Alfons Schuhbeck's sandwich creations, with unusual spreads and freshly baked bread and rolls. The partnered restaurant features a display kitchen, where guests can watch the chefs in action. At the stands in Schubeck's "Viktualienmarkt", named for the renowned outdoor marketplace in the Munich city center, high-quality snacks will be available to enjoy immediately or packaged for take-out. Also coming to Munich Airport when the satellite terminal opens: the gourmet hamburgers of Munich's innovative, home-grown "Hans im Glück". "Sissi & Franz" – an edgy re-imagining of Vienna coffee house culture and courtly traditions – bridges the culinary gap between Bavaria and Austria. The architecture and decor of the "Lenbachs" tower bar, the focal point of the marketplace, were inspired by the Bavarian painter Franz von Lenbach.

Next door, guests at the elegant Bubbles Bar, operated by the Italian retail and hospitality giant Autogrill, can watch the activity on the airport's eastern apron while enjoying fresh seafood and premium wines. Autogrill will also run "Amo", which will combine an Italian restaurant with a coffee bar, focusing on quick service and excellent quality.

The appeal of Munich and the surrounding region is also reflected in the design of the three spacious TRAVEL VALUE and Duty Free stores.
