EASTON, Md. - Oct. 29, 2015 - PRLog -- Darlene Young brings 39 years of experience to her role as the new Director of Resident Care at Candle Light Cove senior living community in Easton.

Young also is a believer in the techniques and philosophies of Teepa Snow, one of America’s leading educators on dementia.

“I have a love of working with people of dementia,” said Young, an Easton resident who has been involved in senior care since 1976. “I was able to work with Teepa Snow and learn her techniques. I’m trying to expand that experience and bring that education to the team here at Candle Light Cove. That is my goal.”

Candle Light Cove Executive Director Cissy Stoner believes Young has already made an impact since joining the team in August.

“While Darlene brings a wealth of knowledge, experiences, and training to her new role, I’m most excited about her background in working with people with cognitive impairments and Alzheimer’s, specifically,” Stoner said. “With the prevalence of dementia today, I believe that her expertise in this area aligns perfectly with our goals and with our ‘Be Greater’ vision.”

Young has had a couple months to settle into her position at Candle Light Cove. She said the team has made her feel at home. Candle Light Cove also has embraced Young’s commitment to implementing Snow’s principles.

Snow’s Positive Approach™ to Care techniques and training models are used by families and professionals working or living with dementia or other brain changes throughout the world.

Snow’s website states, “Her care strategies and techniques integrate what is known about brain function and changes that happen with dementing conditions with therapeutic approaches to foster positive outcomes, modified environmental supports, and altered task expectations that match retained or available abilities of people living with some form of dementing illness. She teaches about the value of connection when primary verbal communication and interaction abilities are altered.”

    Young has seen results.

“It is so interesting when you find out what is happening in the brain,” Young said. “When I found out the difference the techniques she uses can make in peoples’ lives I said, ‘This what I need to do.’”
