MESA, Ariz. - Nov. 3, 2015 - PRLog -- Brighton Publishing LLC proudly announces the signing of author Tom Hawks for his new work “Chance and Circumstance: A Chance Colt Literary Mystery.”Initial eBook release is tentatively scheduled for second quarter 2016, and will be available in popular eBook formats from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other leading eBook retailers worldwide. Print release will follow in summer 2016, distributed by Ingram, the world’s largest wholesale book distributor, in addition to worldwide availability through the Espresso Book Machine Network.

Synopsis: “My unwed mother named me Chance because she didn’t think I’d have one. My father named me Colt because of natural circumstance. The story goes that my father’s last name was Colt, supposedly a true life descendant of the legendary American gun manufacturer, Samuel Colt, the inventor of the ‘Peacemaker;’ the gun that won the West. It could be a true story, or it could be a damn lie. Either way, it doesn’t really make much difference to me. I am who I am.”

This is how the story of Chance and Circumstance begins, as a modern-day literary mystery and Western lawman’s novel about the life and times of Sheriff Chance Colt, the fictional Sheriff of Santa Cruz County, Arizona, which shares a common border to its south with the ever-dangerous country of Mexico. Chance Colt is a real-life, walking and talking “dichotomy of man,” who is a sort of Clint Eastwood/Zen Master-like character, who uses his learned philosophies, principles and instincts of Native American Indian wisdom and Zen Buddhist philosophy to fight his never-ending battle between good versus evil.

Sheriff Chance Colt is a cross between Wyatt Earp and Socrates; a thinking man’s lawman. He is a 19th century man living reluctantly in a 21st century world. He is a former U.S. Marine scout sniper, a current Western lawman, a wannabe Buddhist monk and a passionate lover and believer in the deep wisdom, knowledge and healing powers of God’s four-legged creatures, teachers and mentors; his dog, William Shakespeare, and his horses, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. He believes strongly in “natural horsemanship” and the “unseen forces” of the natural world. He also regularly communicates with and is haunted by his “spirit guide” and “guardian angel,” the long-dead former Santa Cruz County Sheriff George J. White, who was killed in 1921 in the line of duty.

The novel follows the trials, trails, triumphs and tribulations of its main character, Chance Colt, as well as his two-legged and four-legged friends, co-workers, companions and sidekicks, who assist him in his daily battle to enforce truth, justice, and The Code of the West in this desolate and dangerous Arizona borderlands region of barren desert, mountains and sky.

“Tom Hawks has laced together an emotionally plotting story, while capturing real human interaction seasoned with just the right amount of mystery and intrigue,” said Kathie McGuire, director of Brighton Publishing.

Tom Hawks was born and raised in the Chicago area, and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Illinois State University. He is an avid student of military arts and sciences, criminology, Native American philosophy and Zen Buddhist philosophy.

Tom resides in Sahuarita, Arizona, with his wife Lynn and his best friend, a black Labrador retriever named Cowboy.
