CHENNAI, India - Nov. 18, 2015 - PRLog -- Taking the conventional route of approaching leading publishing houses to get their works published is what first-time authors often do. However, success doesn’t come easy in this field, especially when thousands are vying with one another to get a well-known publisher agree to invest in their book. While some find a great solution in self-publishing, some may have doubts going down this route.

As the name suggests, self-publishing is all about DIY. The mere thought of taking full responsibility for their book might induce a sense of anxiety in some despite some great self-publishing companies like Notion Press lending out all-out support in activities such as editing, book designing, book marketing, book distribution, revision etc.

If you’re planning to self-publish, here are some common roadblocks that could hit you and ways to overcome them:

1. It’s extremely common for conventional publishing houses to turn down publishing requests and if that happens with you repeatedly, it could induce a strong sense of self-doubt and reservations. The thought that your work is not just good enough could dissuade you from taking up self-publishing. However, it’s just a small aberration—pick yourself up and believe that your work is valuable enough to be read and the only reason it can’t be published is your unfounded dilemma.

2. Traditional publishing was until now more popular and preferred. However, that doesn’t make it any better than self-publishing. To think that one’s book wouldn’t do well just because it didn’t go through the usual grind of publishers and agents is farthest from the truth. As long as the book offers something worthwhile to its audience, and is promoted, marketed and distributed effectively, there is no reason it won’t work.

3. Prominent publishers seemingly have the resources, influence and framework, and it might seem they are the best shot at getting your work published. Few people however realise that these publishing houses charge a big chunk of your royalty, sometimes as high as 90%. Self-publishing houses like Notion Press are a lot different and offer complete publishing guidance with no royalty cut. They also have a special ‘Accelerator Program’ which offers complete publishing guidance, including professional mentorship for marketing and selling your book.

To qualify for the three-month programme, the author must have sold at least 300 copies, and have a minimum of 30 positive Notion Press reviews. The Program qualifies the author for Rs 1 lakh funding and 70% of net profits on book sales.
