By: George Cole San Pablo, CA. - George Cole used his iPhone to shoot a video of Jimmy Luttrell playing “How High the Moon” as Jimmy lay in his hospital bed at Creekside Healthcare Center on the evening of December 4th. Jimmy has been hospitalized and recovering from multiple health issues and is scheduled to have esophageal surgery on Monday Dec 7th. It was George’s hope to lift Jimmy’s spirits with some guitar playing. The video caught on immediately and continues to rack up tens of thousands of views per hour. It’s George Cole's hope to raise awareness of Jimmy Luttrell’s condition and appreciation for Jimmy as a master guitarist, a man who continues to inspire others in a remarkable way. About Jimmy Luttrell Jimmy Luttrell played guitar with the Lawrence Welk Orchestra, Spade Cooley (the King of Western Swing), Elvis Presley (substituted for James Burton), taught John and Tom Fogerty and helped to arrange some of their hits (“Susie Q”). Jimmy is an East Bay guitar legend and unsung for the most part in the music industry. He was guitar instructor to George Cole and many other grateful Bay Area guitarists. Jimmy Luttrell, a native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, has been playing the guitar since his mother introduced him to the instrument at the age of ten. Following this early introduction he became inspired with the sound and possibilities of the instrument and has immersed himself into refining and perfectly his unique style. Eventually, this self-taught musical talent moved to Richmond CA. He went on to win the State Champion Guitarist of California award in 1956. Jimmy has performed as a guitarist for such outstanding artists as the Drifters, Ben E. King, Spade Cooley, Bobby Vinton and many others. In the early 1960s, while in Hawaii, the late great Jimi Hendrix heard Jimmy performing and immediately wanted to learn his guitar techniques and playing style. His beautiful melodic sounds leave a lasting impression that linger in the mind of the listener. Visit George Cole’s Face Book page to see the video https://www.facebook.com/ End
