By: PYEONGCHANG TROUT FESTIVAL Both locals and expats can bring their family members to South Korea‘s largest winter festival taking place annually in Gangwon Province’s Pyeongchang County, the venue of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. “The 9th Pyeongchang Trout Festival” will kick off on Dec. 18, 2015 for the 45-day run at Odaecheon area of Mt. Odae in Jinbu-myeon in Pyeongchang County. The winter festival will be a great opportunity for anglers and other holiday makers as it offers various winter sports as well as ice fishing. Aside from ice fishing and lure fishing, visitors and family members can enjoy a variety of winter sports and traditional folk games including sledding, top spinning, snow rafting, sleigh trains, and riding four-wheel ATVs. Any trout caught from ice fishing and lure fishing can immediately be prepared at the nearby restaurants. They can either make sashimi of the trout or roast the trout on the spot. The venue of Pyeongchang County is hugely popular among the winter travellers for the heavy snow and its scenic winter beauty. The visitors can make an easy and comfortable access to the nearby ski resorts and to the East Sea tourist sites flocked by winter travellers. In addition, such majestic and time-honored Buddhist temples as Woljeongsa and Sangwonsa are within the stone' throw of the festival venue. “Pyeongchang is the first place in the nation that started trout farming,” Chairman Kim Ju-Eon of Pyeongchang Trout Festival Committee commented. “Trouts grown in this place are particularly delectable” “Trouts, raw or cooked, are what Koreans at all ages are enjoying and they are nurtured and farmed in cold and crystal clear water in the area,” Chairman Kim added.
